Foxes are known for being sly trickers, and have often been the subject of folklore from around the world but there’s a lot more to them than meets the eye.

These beautiful creatures are part of the Canidae family which includes wolves, jackals, and dogs.
Unlike other canids, foxes are not always pack animals.

A female fox is called a vixen, a male fox is called a tod or dog fox.
The Arctic fox has adaptive traits that helps it survive in the frozen tundra.

They exhibit many dog-like behaviors.
Foxes show great care with their young.
In 2009, a fox cub was caught in a snare for two weeks before it was rescued. He was badly injured and unable to escape. He survived only because his mother brought him food while he was trapped.
Foxes will eat just about anything, including berries, spiders, worms, and small animals such as mice and birds.
Soviet scientist Dmitry Belyaev bred silver foxes that exhibited domestic traits, including floppy ears, tail wagging, and spotted coats.
Foxes are the only type of dog capable of retracting their claws like cats do.
They have vertical pupils like cats.
Foxes will eat just about anything, including berries, spiders, worms, and small animals such as mice and birds.
The fox’s thick tail helps it balance and serves as a warm cover in the winter.
Baby foxes are called kits, pup, or cubs. A group of foxes is called a skulk or a leash.
